E 1.5.4 : HOW TO BELIEVE ? WHAT TO BELIEVE ?
THE CRITERIA GIVEN BY JESUS ( JOHN 5 )
( Paraphrased from ‘His claims of Who He is’ to convince the Jewish Religious Leaders of His time )
There are two types of witnesses one could rely on, to help them take a decision as to what they have to believe. You can see them below :
A. HEAVENLY WITNESSES = SPIRITUAL WITNESSES
These are unseen but personal. The concerned person has an inner knowing / inner conviction / persuasion of what he believes is right or wrong. The certainty and assurance that comes through the Inner Witness within our Spirit, by the Spirit of God. This voice of the Inner Witness is heard by the believer, when one has the following attitudes :
A1. Always makes an effort to obtain the approval of God
A2. Is always willing to do only the Will of the Father God
A3. Has the assurance that God loves him / her ( Inner Personal Conviction = Inner Witness in our own Spirit through Holy Spirit )
A4. Is willing to examine the Testimony of God that other God’s servants have in their Spirit – whether the same Divine revelations of God is given to him / her. Thus the believer further confirms his own beliefs, through the same conviction and assurance of the truth given by the Holy Spirit in the hearts of other servants of God.
A5. Supernatural Personal Experiences known only to him / her privately, to confirm, what he / she believes
B. GODLY, EARTHLY WITNESSES
These are visible, can be seen, heard and understood – tangible for anyone who is wanting to believe :
B1. Scriptural verses to confirm what we believe
B2. The Testimony of Godly Character = Godliness, seen in the life of the one who believes
B3. Testimony of Other Servants of God, to confirm the same Spiritual matter/s, that one is prompted to believe
B4. Manifestations of Supernatural Signs & Wonders to confirm, what we believe as God’s Word
